Ring of Fire -

New site-specific commission for the local house "Matabe" in Honmura district, opened to the public starting June 21 (Friday).
Under the project title of "Ring of Fire," the entire house is profoundly rendered by works of two artists, who worked collaboratively to conceptualize the time and place. In this house, the cycle of "Day" and "Night" is articulated by the alternating activation of works.

Haegue Yang

Haegue Yang (b. 1971, South Korea) is Professor of Fine Arts at the Staedelschule in Frankfurt am Main. Yang's practice spans a wide range of media, from paper collage to performative sculpture and large-scale installations, often featuring everyday objects.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul

Apichatpong Weerasethakul (b. 1970, Thailand) is recognized as a major international filmmaker and visual artist. His works are characterized by their use of non-linear storytelling, often dealing with themes of memory, loss, identity, desire, and history.
His film "Uncle Boonmee" won the Cannes Palme d'Or in 2010 and the Cannes Jury Prize in 2021 for "Memoria". His installations have received major attention at many international exhibitions including Documenta 13 in Kassel in 2012. In recent years, he has also taken on the challenge of creating experiential videos that make full use of AR/VR technology.

Requests to visitors

When visiting the museum

・Please do not bring large objects (suitcases, umbrellas, tripods, etc.) into the museum.
・Pets may not be taken into the museum.
・Smoking is prohibited on the museum premises.
・The use of cell phones is prohibited on the museum premises.
・Visitors may not eat (including candy, gum, boxed lunches, etc.) or drink on the museum premises.
・Visitors may be refused entry if they appear intoxicated or otherwise pose a disturbance to other visitors.

When viewing the artworks

・Please do not touch the walls, the glass, or the artworks themselves.
・Please do not take photographs, videos, or make sketches in the museum. Visitors are also requested not to use fountain pens, ink, etc.

About using drone

・It's strictly prohibited to operate Unmanned Aircrafts (UAs) /Drone in Benesse Art Site Naoshima premises without our prior permission due to safety assurance reasons for the people, architecture and artworks.
